The course is dedicated to the 450th anniversary of the birth of the great poet and playwright. Modern Shakespearean studies is a branch of philological research that is unique in many respects. The scale of personality of the creator of immortal works and their aesthetic significance are exceptional, and the total volume of works devoted to Shakespeare is also unprecedented. However, Shakespearean studies also have other, unexpected, although fairly well-known aspects that determine its uniqueness. The authorship of no other writer in the history of world literature is disputed as fiercely as it is. in the case of William Shakespeare of Stratford: to date there are at least 80 contenders for his place candidates. The very composition of the works called Shakespearean and the question of the specifics of Shakespeare’s style are debatable: many researchers either focus on relatively specific characteristics of texts or offer extremely streamlined conclusions. However, for all its apparent vulnerability (the authorship of Shakespearean texts is doubtful, the exact composition of the canonical works is unknown, the style exists, but is difficult to describe) modern Shakespearean studies can give an adequate answer to most mysteries and dispel the myths associated with the name great playwright.
