The proposed course of lectures reveals the main problems and difficulties of foreign language education, that is, learning and teaching foreign languages in general and English, which confidently claims to be a global language, in peculiarities. Course objectives: to prepare students for effective international and intercultural communication with special attention to interlingual and intercultural competencies; based on many years of experience in the scientific study and teaching of English at the faculties of Moscow State University: philological, historical, foreign languages and regional studies (FILR), share experience in overcoming difficulties, obvious and hidden, linguistic, cultural and psychological barriers on the way of both students of foreign languages and those who teach them teaches.
