1. Introduction.
1.1. Subject of dendrology. Anatomical features of woody plants. Basic concepts and terms of plant morphology. Organography of woody plants, its terminology and significance for identifying species. The main decorative elements of woody plants of various life forms (trees, shrubs, lianas). Habitus of trees and shrubs, its seasonal dynamics. Intraspecific variability and its use in the selection of garden forms. Basic principles of plant taxonomy, taxonomic hierarchy, taxa of lower ranks (cultivar, race, subspecies, species, family), binary Latin names of plants and their practical meaning (2 hours).
1.2. The relationship of plants to environmental factors (*climate, geometric space, light supply, water regime, soil conditions, relief, anthropogenic factors). School of winter hardiness (assessment using the GBS RAS methodology). Ecological niche of the species. Complex influence of environmental factors and resistance of woody plants to them. Phytocenological basis of the growth of woody plants in single-species, mixed and complex compositional plantings. Competitive relations and their regulation in cultural conditions. Introduction of foreign species. Initial assessment of environmental conditions at the initial stage of design work (2 hours).

2.3. Watering, fertilizing and other types of agricultural work. Seasonal features of work in planting woody plants. Garden tools. Chemicals for gardening
2.4. The main methods of propagation of woody plants: seed and vegetative, their technological features. Collection and storage, interruption of natural dormancy in seeds and their sowing. Harvesting winter and summer stem cuttings, processing the material with root formation stimulants, planting and further care. Formation of planting material.
3. Assortment of woody plants.
3.1. Coniferous trees and shrubs, their garden forms and varieties.
3.2. Deciduous trees, their shapes and varieties.
3.3. Lianas.
3.4. Deciduous shrubs: an overview of the types and forms of various decorative groups according to their functional purpose (beautifully flowering, decorative deciduous, hedge and screening, evergreen, decorative fruit, shady and so on.
4. Analytical part.
4.1. Classification of plant species and cultivars for various habitats (shade-tolerant plants, moisture- and drought-resistant plants, plants for poor and extreme soils, acidophilic types, etc.).
4.2. Compilation of decorative and phenological spectra in landscape design. Garden calendar of continuous flowering.
