Game designer is a specialist who creates a gaming experience. It depends on him what and how the user will play. Throughout the course, we will create our own small game in the genre of “stealth third-person shooter” - under the guidance of a professional game designer and other specialists. As a diploma, you will need to create your own boss fight. We will not have different boss models for each student - you will have to choose from several ready-made options. But only you will be responsible for the gameplay.
Purpose of the course - teach you how to work on games the way they do it in major studios around the world. In 4 months at the Game Design faculty you will create an advanced prototype of a third-person shooter and master everything skills required by a game designer: from searching for ideas and creating prototypes to setting technical specifications and drawing up documentation.

PROGRAM

You will find out who a game designer is and what he does. You will begin to understand the psychology of the player - his needs and motivation. You will learn to generate ideas for levels, find out what documentation is needed and create a design document.
Mechanics. Narrative design. Balance. Prototyping
You will understand the game loop, meta-mechanics and balance at the level. You will learn who a narrative designer is and how to create an interesting narrative. You will get acquainted with prototyping and its types, and find out in which areas to apply them.
Getting started in Unreal Engine 4. Movement system. Weapon
You will create a project, add a mannequin and animations, and think through the basic mechanics of movement. You'll add a firearm prototype, create documentation, work with third-party plugins, and configure reloading.
Artificial intelligence. Additional systems in a third-person shooter. Combat and interface
You will learn the roles, functions and types of opponents in the game. You will create documentation for them, get acquainted with hit reactions and start working with AI. You will start working with the interface in the game and learn about the library of ready-made game mechanics for games - Blueprint Librarium.
Basics of level design. Processes and organization
You will understand what a level designer does and how to communicate with him. Create a test level and look at its metrics. You will learn to organize work in a team and formulate technical specifications for other departments.
Feedback and resume.
Conduct testing and check the level for bugs. You will write a resume and learn how to behave during an interview. At the end, a challenge awaits you, which you will go through together with your fellow students.
