WhatsApp launched audio chats with up to 32 people - just like Discord
Miscellaneous / / November 14, 2023
whatsapp announced about the launch of a new feature - audio chat for groups. Unlike usual group calls, in this mode the ability to write chat messages is retained. Audio chats also have a different notification system: instead of a call, participants will receive a push notification inviting them to join.
Active audio chat will be displayed at the top of the screen, without interfering with the parallel use of the application.
The audio chat ends after all participants leave - or if no one has joined the first or last participant within 60 minutes. You can only start audio chat on your main WhatsApp device.
Audio chats will gradually roll out to WhatsApp users on iOS and Android in the coming weeks. For now, the function is only available for groups of 33 to 128 people, with up to 32 participants able to call simultaneously.
