Resident of Kayseri in Turkey discovered under his home there is an ancient underground city more than 2,000 years old. Now he wants to turn it into a tourist attraction.
The man said he made an unexpected discovery during a major renovation of his home - in the basement space that the family had used for years as a barn and hay storage. Having cleared it of dirt and earth, a whole network of tunnels opened up in front of him.
According to scientists from the Foundation for the Protection and Promotion of Environmental and Cultural Values of Turkey (ÇEKÜL), the area of the underground city is about 300 square meters. It consists of two levels connected by narrow passages. The interior also features a variety of crafted stones and living spaces. The length of the places available for exploration is 150-200 meters.
It is assumed that the people who lived in it once rose to the surface and built new houses. They used their previous dwellings for some time as utility rooms, but over time they forgot about them forever.
