Mac computers have learned to detect liquids entering USB-C ports

Apple's standard warranty does not cover damage caused by liquid entering the device. For this reason, the company has different methods to determine the real causes of problems. Now another one has been added to them.
How writes 9to5mac, The latest macOS Sonoma 14.1 update introduces a system tool called Liquiddetectiond that performs a background analysis of all USB-C ports and detects when they get wet.
iPhone and iPad have a similar feature. But in their case, it is used to alert users so that they immediately unplug the charging cable and have time to prevent damage to the device. On computers, it is intended for service center workers. With its help, they will quickly understand whether the device is subject to free repair.
This innovation will complement existing diagnostic methods. Macs have long used Liquid Contact Indicators (LCIs). These are small paper elements hidden in the body that change color when in contact with moisture.
