Google Photos now saves copies of images in RAW format
Miscellaneous / / October 21, 2023
Google started Implement a RAW image backup feature in the Google Photos app. It is already available to many Android and iOS users.
RAW photos are unprocessed images that contain more detail. The format is usually used to evaluate and better edit pictures. Now the service uploads exactly these sources to the cloud by default. And marks them with the appropriate icon.
Users who already have this option note that it is impossible to disable it. However, such pictures weigh more than usual and can very quickly fill up 15 GB of free storage. There are only two ways to solve this problem now - disable autoloading completely or stop shooting in RAW format.
However, the feature has only just begun to spread. It is quite possible that control settings will appear along with the full launch.
