The security system works with both Google Play and third-party resources.
Google updated mechanism of Play Protect, adding a new scanning mode for applications installed on the device. It works unnoticed by the user - in the background.
Now, before installing a program, the security system first prompts you to scan it for malware, and then reports its presence if it is found. After this, you can click the “Don’t install the application” button. Moreover, this works both with downloads through Google Play and through third-party resources.
Google Play Protect antivirus has always been able to scan applications in real time. But previously he used faster methods like analyzing scan history. Now the software works at the code level. The company notes that this allows it to detect even those malware that use AI or other modern methods of protection from detection. True, this also increased the loading time of applications.
The new feature is already available to users in India. It should appear in other regions in the coming months.
