How to create complex notes with links to other posts in iOS 17

With each release of its mobile OS, Apple improves the standard Notes, eliminating the need for third-party applications. 17th version iOS is no exception. In addition to supporting full editing of PDF documents and filling out forms, it now has a very useful function for creating links to notes.

Thanks to this, the user can create related posts, their own knowledge bases, as well as structure ideas and thoughts, literally putting everything on the shelves using free built-in tool.

Linked Notes works on iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma. There are two ways to create them. Here's how it's done.

How to quickly add a link

Create a new note or open any existing note, then enter two greater than symbols (>>) in a row and select one of the five most recent entries from the drop-down list. The link will immediately appear in the text.

By tapping on it, you will go to the corresponding note, and if there are more links inside it, then further, to the next entries.

If you want to link to an older note or a note that didn't fit into the five recent list, after the “more” symbols, start typing her name or part of the content and select the one you want from those offered options.

Moreover, if you enter the name of a non-existent note, iOS will automatically create it and provide a link to it.

How to add a link to a note using the insert menu

The standard clipboard interface in iOS now allows you to add links not only to web pages, but also to notes. To use this feature, long tap, then scroll the pop-up menu to the right, tap Add Link and start typing the name of the note.

Select the desired entry from the list and click “Done.” The link will appear in the text.

Unlike the previous one, this method allows you to change the link name to something more suitable for the context. To do this, you just need to turn off the corresponding toggle switch and enter a new name. For example, you can put a link to the mother's note and specify the name “Back”.

As a result, you will be able to create a simple but fully functional navigation system through your own information database.
