NASA has calculated the date of a possible collision of the Earth with a “doomsday asteroid”

The strike would be equivalent to the explosion of 24 nuclear bombs.
NASA calculated the exact date when an asteroid might hit the Earth Bennu, which is also called the "doomsday asteroid". This could happen on September 24, 2182.
The width of this space object is 490 meters. It belongs to the category of “city killers” - in the event of a collision with our planet, it can destroy an entire metropolis.
If Bennu hits, it will be an impact at a speed of about 11 kilometers per second. At the same time, it will release 1,400 megatons of energy - this is equivalent to the explosion of 24 nuclear bombs. Fortunately, the probability of such a scenario is zero until 2100 and very small after that - about 1 in 2,700.
Scientists also note that such a diamond-shaped object is not new to the Earth’s vicinity and they have already studied it a little. They know that the Sun's long orbit brings it closer to us every six years or so, but until now it has always been within about 5 million kilometers.
However, Bennu's orbit often changes, which is alarming. Therefore, NASA is very interested in this asteroid and has been monitoring it for a long time. Back in 2016, the agency launched the automatic interplanetary station OSIRIS-REx. Already on September 24 she must return with samples of its soil. Studying them will allow scientists to better understand our cosmic neighbor and more accurately predict its behavior.
