New feature for Plus subscribers.
Yandex has added a new feature “Where are you?” to the Plus Children subscription. It allows parents to track their child's location on a map. To do this, just connect your child with an Android smartphone to the children's version of the subscription and enable the function.
On the parent device, you can not only track where your child is now, but also save a list of places that he visits regularly - for example, school, a club or grandma's house. As soon as he is near one of these addresses or leaves it, a notification will be sent to the parent’s smartphone. The parent will also be warned if the smartphone charge drops below 20%.
In areas where GPS tracking does not work or is limited, the smartphone will be tracked using LBS (coordinates of the nearest mobile operator stations and Wi-Fi). In large cities they promise positioning accuracy within 50-200 meters. To save battery power, the application will request data from satellites and towers less often while the child is at the saved address.
You can add several children to a family group and track the location of each one. There are 8 seats in the group, but there must be one adult. The remaining seats can be occupied by both children and adults.
For now, turn on “Where are you?” is only available on Android smartphones, but they promise to roll it out to iOS later. The parent's device type is not important. You need to activate the setting from the parent device through the Yandex application, then you will need to continue on the child device. It is necessary that the child's child account be included in the family group of the user who is doing the setup. Once the setup is complete, the child will receive a notification that the geolocation is being transferred to the parents.
Until October 1, the “Children” option is available to Yandex Plus subscribers free of charge, then it will cost 100 rubles per month.
