This is what we're watching: "Inside Llewyn Davis" - a musical dramedy by the Coen brothers with Oscar Isaac

A touching picture, after which you want to listen to folk and country music.
In this series Articles every week I talk about what films and TV shows struck me.
"Inside Llewyn Davis" tells the story of the life and suffering of folk musician Llewyn Davis. He quit his job as a sailor in the hope that he would become a star, but his career does not work out at all. Davis performs in small clubs, records unnecessary records and barely makes ends meet, spending the night with friends.
From the very first minutes the Coen brothers show that they are not going to idealize the main character. Rather, on the contrary - his creative side is associated with arrogance, arrogance, recklessness. But Davis is played by Oscar Isaac, and therefore the hero can be arbitrarily arrogant, but still looks as charming as possible.
This kind of uncertainty and confusion is inherent throughout the film. There are no negative or positive characters. It's just that the characters live in a strange atmosphere, where the hope for the best, personified by music, is accompanied by everyday problems - from an empty wallet to an unplanned pregnancy. It seems that it is the absence of extremes that makes the picture so emotional - everything in it is alive and touching. Although the perception is influenced by music. You don't have to like folk or country to get into the soundtrack.
Perhaps this is the strongest role of Oscar Isaac. The script allowed him to work with a wide range of emotions, and he did a great job. His character is both slovenly and serious, polite and rude. Isaac stands out even against the background of a generally excellent ensemble cast (he is surrounded by Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Adam Driver and others).
Who would have thought that Justin Timberlake performing folk could look organic? But the Coens change the pop star into a sweater, give him a guitar, and he easily transforms into a singer of the 60s.
It seems that "Inside Llewyn Davis"- a movie in which everything is in its place.
