Rotten Tomatoes users named the best director in 25 years. This is Christopher Nolan

Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes conducted a user vote to determine the best director of the past 25 years. The survey was in the form of a tournament, and two reached the last stage: Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve. Winner came out Nolan, but won not at all dry: 56% versus 44%. In previous rounds, Nolan scored 87% of the vote or more.

Here are some results of the intermediate rounds:

• By Jun Ho («parasites"") passed Jason Reitman ("The Office);
• Guy Ritchie («Gentlemen"") lost to Damien Chazelle ("La La Land");
• Damien Chazelle beat Sofia Coppola ("Lost in Translation");
• Makoto Shinkai ("Your Name") lost to Sofia Coppola;
• Taika Waititi (Real Ghouls) beats out Brad Bird (The Incredibles)
• Greta Gerwig ("Barbie”) lost to Jordan Peele (“Get Out”).
