How to care for elastic bands, headbands and other hair accessories
Miscellaneous / / September 02, 2023
Simple rules will help extend the life of your favorite jewelry.
Why clean your hair accessories
On elastic bands, hairpins, headbands, headbands and other jewelry, dust, remnants of styling products, as well as particles of dead skin and sebum settle over time. Dirt hits on the hair, and if you tie them at night with an elastic band, then also on the pillow, and then on facial skin. Therefore, it is important to wash and clean accessories from time to time, especially after training and other active activities.
And proper storage and careful attitude will prolong the life of even the simplest gum.
How to take care of your hair accessories
Clean them regularly
Do this as you get dirty, or after every workout, cleaning, outdoor activities, and other activities where you might sweat or get dirty. Elastic or fabric elastic bands and bandages can be machine washed at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees. Products made of velvet and other delicate fabrics, plastic, metal are best washed by hand. To do this, dissolve 1 teaspoon of liquid soap or
shampoo in warm water, lower the accessories into it and gently clean them with your hands from dirt, grease and styling residues. Then rinse under running water, allow excess liquid to drain and lay on a towel on a horizontal surface until completely dry. Metal hairpins and headbands should be wiped dry immediately after washing.Wooden jewelry, as well as products with rhinestones, beads and any glued elements should not be bathed in water, otherwise the accessories may deteriorate. Use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to clean them. More stubborn stains (such as hairspray marks) can be removed with alcohol wipes.
Use hair ties correctly
Do not stretch the elastic too much, otherwise it will lose its elasticity. It is enough to wrap the tail with it 2-3 times. If you have thick voluminous hair, choose a product with a larger diameter. Also, try to carefully and without sudden movements remove the gum. Hold the tail at the base or braid with the fingers of one hand, and slowly unravel the accessory with the other.
If you have a habit of wearing an elastic band around your wrist, try to get rid of it. In this form, the product is in constant tension and quickly loses elasticity.
Find the right storage space
Exposure to direct sunlight, high temperatures and excessive humidity can cause hair jewelry to wear out more quickly. Due to improper storage conditions, fabrics begin to fade, metal elements become rusty, plastic changes color, elastic materials lose their properties, and various fittings can even fall off.
Therefore, do not keep elastic bands, hair clips and other hair products in the bathroom or on open surfaces. Find a place for them in a dry room away from heating appliances. For example, you can store accessories in a drawer or an opaque box with a lid. This way you will protect them from the sun and dust.
