Apple will introduce AirPods with a new charging case along with the iPhone 15

All four iPhone 15 models to be unveiled are expected to 12-th of September, will feature a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port. The same connector should appear in the AirPods charging case – headphones with such a case can be announced along with smartphones. About it informs Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

The insider does not specify any additional information about the updated AirPods, so it is unclear which ones headphones is talking. However, both the base AirPods and AirPods Pro will eventually transition to USB-C.

It's also unclear if the updated AirPods will have any new features or changes beyond the USB-C charging case. The third generation AirPods were released in October 2021 and the second generation AirPods Pro were released in September 2022. It is too early to update the latter, but the upgrade of the base model is quite real.

There are also several other Apple products and accessories that will likely need to migrate from Lightning to USB-C over time if they remain on sale. These are, for example, AirPods Max, MagSafe portable battery, Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, various adapters and so on. Last year, Apple already updated the Siri Remote with a USB-C port.
