Web page voice acting will appear in the Chrome browser
Miscellaneous / / August 26, 2023
Google is experimenting with a text-to-speech feature in the desktop version of its Chrome browser. However, so far the testers are unhappy with her work.
User X (until recently Twitter) Leopeva64 found this option in the latest version of Chrome Canary (early developer builds). According to him, the voice button is only in reading mode and is located above the title of the article.
The Verge notesthat while Google still has work to do - the voice sounds robotic and reads everything in solid text. It is unlikely that anyone will want to use such voice acting in Chrome. Moreover, there are alternatives - the function has long been available in other browsers, where it works much better. You can listen to articles, for example, in the mobile Yandex Browser and in Microsoft Edge. The latter even offers multiple speakers to choose from and different playback speeds, and supports multiple languages.
There is no word yet on a release date for web page voiceovers in the public version of Chrome.
