Firefox learned how to import extensions from Chrome
Miscellaneous / / August 25, 2023
The feature is still being tested, but it's easy to turn it on manually.
Founders of Firefox simplified transition from Chrome. Now users can import not only bookmarks, passwords and browsing history, but also extensions.
The feature is still being tested, but you can enable it now in the stable version of Firefox. To do this is simple:
- Paste about: config into the address bar and hit enter.
- Confirm that you are aware of the risk of changing settings and are ready to proceed.
- Find the browser.migrate.chrome.extensions.enabled parameter in the search and switch its value to True with the button on the right.
- Restart your browser.
After that, open the "Import browser data" item in the main settings. Select Chrome from the drop-down list and make sure extensions are selected in the data to import list.
The function still has a couple of shortcomings: the lack of support for browsers other than Chrome and all extensions. For now, only extensions available in the Mozilla Extension Store can be migrated. That is, the browser gets a list of your extensions from Chrome, checks their presence in the built-in store and installs everything that is available.
It is not yet known when the feature will be available to the public without the need for manual activation and support for other browsers will appear.
