Miscellaneous / / August 18, 2023
Blushing can be the beginning of an unpleasant skin disease.
What is couperose
Couperose is an inflammation of the blood vessels of the skin on the face. Russian cosmetologists consider it as a separate condition, but in foreign literature the term counts synonymous with rosacea.
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory disease. It can manifest in the form of persistent redness and noticeable vessels on the skin, as well as accompanied by rashes and overgrowth of tissues on the nose (rhinophyma), forehead (metaphim), ears (otophyma), chin (gnatophyma), eyelids (blepharophim). Therefore, four subtypes of this disease are distinguished:
- Erythematous-telangiectatic - this is exactly what is called rosacea.
- Papulo-pustular, in which red and pink pimples appear on the face, similar to acne, and the redness of the skin and blood vessels are less pronounced.
- Phymatous, in which tuberous tissue grows in some areas.
- Eye.
With rosacea, redness begins with "hot flashes", so they can be confused with a blush due to strong emotions or heat. But without treatment, they become permanent. Due to the eternal expansion, small capillaries are visible on the face, especially on the cheeks.
Why do blood vessels in the face dilate?
Nobody does not knowwhat exactly causes the vessels to expand and become inflamed, but scientists have several hypotheses:
- Excessive activity of the trigeminal nerve, which also controls the blood vessels in the face.
- Violation of the outflow of blood.
- Increasing the number of microscopic skin mites Demodex folliculorum.
- Abnormal vascular growth due to inflammation.
- Taking certain medications, such as antiarrhythmic and high blood pressure medications, creams and nose drops with corticosteroids.
- High doses vitamins B6 and B12.
Who is more likely to experience rosacea?
Couperosis, like rosacea, can affect anyone. But statistically more meets in fair-skinned middle-aged women.
There are factors that increase the likelihood of its occurrence:
- hot drinks and spicy food;
- alcoholic drinks, especially red wine;
- extreme high or low temperatures;
- prolonged exposure to the active sun or strong wind;
- powerful emotions;
- physical exercise;
- smoking;
- the use of certain skin or hair care products.
What are the signs of rosacea
Couperosis itself is redness of the central part of the face and spider veins. But rosacea, which is accompanied by rosacea, can call and other symptoms:
- burning skin;
- dryness;
- sensitivity;
- puffiness;
- yellow-orange spots;
- inflammation similar to acne;
- dryness and irritation of the eyes;
- thickening of the skin on the nose, forehead, eyelids and ears (this sign is more common in men than in women).
When to See a Doctor
If you notice frequent reddening of the cheeks and other symptoms listed above, make an appointment with a dermatovenereologist.
Specific tests for rosacea No. The doctor looks at the condition of the skin and checks for signs of other diseases, such as comedonesthat indicate acne.
How to get rid of rosacea
After the examination, the dermatologist will prescribe a treatment for you. They usually begin with the exclusion of provoking factors, but may recommend and medicines:
- metronidazole preparations (these are antiparasitic drugs, but in this case they are needed in order to reduce inflammation);
- ivermectin preparations;
- antibiotics;
- gel with azelaic acid;
- external therapy with benzoyl peroxide;
- retinoids in tablets.
If bumpy growths have already appeared on the skin, then they can only be removed with the help of a laser, electrocoagulation or surgery.
