How to prepare blackberries for freezing
Rinse the blackberries thoroughly under cold running water, removing leaves, twigs, and other debris. In the process, also get rid of spoiled and damaged berries.
Drain the berries in a colander and let the excess liquid drain. Then lay the blackberries out in a single layer on a paper towel to dry.
How to freeze whole blackberries for the winter
If everything is done correctly, the berries will not lose their shape after defrosting and remain crumbly. They can be used to make smoothies, compotes, baked goods, or simply eaten.
What you need
- Blackberry;
- tray or baking sheet;
- paper or cling film;
- zip-lock bags or ordinary polyethylene or containers with a lid.
How to do
Line a tray or baking sheet with paper or cling film. Arrange the blackberries in one layer.
Place the blackberries in the freezer for about 2 hours until firm. The exact time depends on the characteristics of the technique and the quality of the berries. When the blackberries are properly frozen, take them out.
Divide the berries into bags. Press lightly on the package to release excess air. Close the zip fastener or tie the bag in a knot.
Another option is to pack frozen berries in plastic containers with a tight lid.
Send the blackberries to the freezer for storage.
How to freeze blackberries grated with sugar
Berry puree will be an excellent ready-made filling for pies and other pastries. And it can also be added to cereals, drinks and used as a sauce for pancakes, cheesecakes and pancakes.
What you need
- Blackberry;
- sugar;
- a saucepan or other deep container with a flat bottom;
- immersion blender or potato pusher;
- plastic containers.
How to do
Place the blackberries in a saucepan or other container with high sides and a flat bottom. Grind the berries until pureed with an immersion blender or potato masher.
Pour sugar into the puree at the rate of 0.5 kg of sand per 1 kg of berries. If you do not like too sweet dishes, add sugar in portions to regulate the taste of the product.

Pour the blackberry puree into plastic containers and close them with a tight lid. For convenience, choose small containers to defrost berries in portions.
Place containers of blackberry puree in the freezer.
