On the night of August 13, the peak of the Perseid meteor shower is expected - and the Russians will be able to see it
Miscellaneous / / August 10, 2023
This is one of the most spectacular astronomical events of the year.
On the night of August 13, residents of the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth will be able to observe the Perseid meteor shower in the sky. Starfall will be visible in Russia.
The stream is active from July 17 to August 24, but the maximum have to Sunday night, just before sunrise. At this time, good visibility is expected, even the waning crescent of the Moon will be illuminated by only 8% and will not interfere with the view. Astronomers promise at least one meteor per minute, or up to 100 shooting stars per hour.
As for Russia, the best view will be in the Ural cities - Perm, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen and Ufa. You can watch the live broadcast on YouTube.
Shooting stars are actually comet Swift-Tuttle particles that enter our atmosphere at high speed and burn up. As a result of collision with air molecules, atoms emit light. It is this "trace" that is visible to the naked eye.

The Perseid Stream is a meteor shower that is formed as a result of the passage of the Earth through a plume of dust particles released by Comet Swift-Tuttle. This is an annual astronomical phenomenon that occurs in August, but always with different intensity. This year it is above average.
