What you need to know about generative fills in Photoshop
Why you need and what generative fill can do
Thanks to the integration of the Firefly neural network in the beta version of Photoshop appeared the function of creating content by text description. AI is able to complete parts of the image automatically or on a given request, offering a choice of several options at once.
Generative fill allows you to remove any objects from the photo, retouching the “voids” from them, and, on the contrary, add new objects and people to the image. In addition, with the help of the function, in just a couple of clicks, you can replace the background or expand the image along the edges, “finishing” the missing parts of the frame.
Who can use
So far, Generative Fill is only available in the beta version of Photoshop, which can be downloaded from the Adobe website. To use the program, you need a Creative Cloud account with an active subscription, but due to blocking in the Russian Federation, there are nuances with this.
If you already have a subscription, you don't need to do anything. Otherwise, you will need to enable VPN and create an account in another country by paying for it through third-party services, or use a free trial period for 7 days.
We will leave the first option outside the scope of this article and consider the second.
How to install Photoshop
Turn on VPNand then navigate to link and download the Creative Cloud app by clicking the button on the page.
Run the downloaded file and click Continue.
Select "Continue with Google" and sign in to your account. Other options may cause errors.
After signing in, the installation of the Creative Cloud utility, which is needed to manage Adobe products, will begin.
On the Applications tab, select Beta Applications in the sidebar. Opposite Photoshop (Beta), click on the "Try it" button.
Once the download is complete, launch Photoshop by clicking on "Trial".

Select the Frame tool in the Toolbox, then hold down Alt (Option on Mac) and drag a corner of the frame to enlarge the canvas to the size you want.
Switch to Select. Select the original part of the image, and then right-click and click "Invert Selection".
In the generative fill panel that appears immediately after the selection, click "Generate". Optionally, you can pre-formulate description for neural network in English.
After a few seconds, Photoshop will finish the frame and offer three options to choose from. You can switch between them with the arrows, and if you don't like it, generate another batch. All options will be collected in the panel on the right.
To save, go to the menu "File" → "Export" → "Export as ..." and specify the format and location.
How to Remove an Object from a Photo in Photoshop
This function allows you to clean photos of unwanted objects by completely removing and retouching them: wires, poles and random passers-by will no longer spoil good shots.
Open the image in Photoshop, choose any selection tool like Lasso, and trace around the object (maybe carelessly). Immediately after closing the path, the Generative Fill panel will appear.
Click the "Generative Fill" button and "Generate" leaving the input field blank. In a few seconds, the neural network will delete everything unnecessary without a trace.
Save the result through the menu "File" → "Export" → "Export as ...", specifying the image format and folder.
How to Add an Object to a Photo in Photoshop
And this is neural network creativity. By selecting an area and formulating a text description, using generative fill, you can finish drawing any objects and people. With the latter, however, AI does not yet cope perfectly.
Load the image into Photoshop. Highlight with any suitable tool, the area where you want to add an object, and click "Generative Fill" in the panel that appears.
Specify as accurately as possible Englishwhat exactly you need to add, and click "Generate".
Phtoshop draws what you want in three versions. If you need more, just click "Generate" more.
Save the version you like through the menu "File" → "Export" → "Export as ...".
How to Replace the Background in Photoshop
Cutting and replacing the rear background is a popular operation that is often used to create funny collages or simply modify photos. With a generative fill, this takes a few seconds, and blanks for a new background are not needed - the neural network itself will draw any environment according to your description.
Open the photo in Photoshop, select the Object Selection tool and click on the center object in the frame.
Right-click on the object, choose Invert Selection, and then click the Generative Fill button.
Describe in English how you want to replace the background, and click "Generate".
Choose one of the three options or generate others if you don't like anything.
Save the finished photo by going to the menu "File" → "Export" → "Export as ..." and specifying the format and location.
