Arc Browser Released on Mac and iOS with a Unique UI
Miscellaneous / / July 26, 2023
The creators rethought the very idea of web surfing, and not once again redrawn Netscape Navigator.
On iOS and macOS took place public release of the unusual Arc browser developed by The Browser Company. The creators wanted to rethink how we use the Internet, and instead of the traditional browser, make an "operating system for the Internet."
Arc does more than just surf the web. Inside there are utilities for creating notes, collaborating on texts and illustrations with other users, as well as the ability to recolor the interface of any site and change the font.
Switching from a regular browser to Arc is easy and hard at the same time. Easy thanks to the quick import of bookmarks from other browsers, but difficult because you have to learn how to use it.
Visually, the main feature is a vertical tab bar instead of a horizontal one. It displays bookmarks and a number of saved pages, as well as current open tabs, a player to control the playback of audio or video files. At the same time, you can set up several panels with different tabs, settings and design and switch between them, as you would between desktop screens on a smartphone.
It is noteworthy that the tabs are self-cleaning - every 12 hours, a day or a week, depending on the settings. You can turn on archiving instead of closing if you're not ready to completely abandon your garbage.
If you have previously used the beta version, Arc 1.0 will not bring noticeable changes: this version only improved stability and made the application available to everyone.
It is noteworthy that the iOS version is positioned as an addition to Arc for Mac, rather than a full-fledged browser. Versions for Windows and Android are still in development. However, already during beta testing, the desktop version of Arc became the default browser for many enthusiasts, so that Mac users should at least give it a try: suddenly it turns out that you can’t go back to Chrome and Safari I want to.
Arc 1.0 is completely free, you can download it from the official website of the developers. Installation requires macOS 12.1 or later.
