How to freeze gooseberries for the winter

Use one of three methods to preserve the taste and aroma of the berries.
From the harvest of fragrant sweet and sour berries, you can make jam, jelly And compote, but if you don’t feel like messing with jars and standing at the stove, just freeze the gooseberries according to our instructions. It is suitable for any kind of berries.
Frozen gooseberries retain their flavor and aroma for up to four months.
How to prepare gooseberries for freezing
Select ripe berries without damage, mold and rot. Clean them of ponytails and twigs. It is convenient to do this with small scissors.
Lay out gooseberry into a large container, fill with cold water and rinse thoroughly to remove dirt and dust.
Drain the berries in a colander and let the water drain. Lay them out on clean cloth or paper towels, blot lightly, and let sit for 1-2 hours. During this time, the gooseberries should dry completely.
How to freeze whole gooseberries for the winter
Add berries to stuffing pies or cook compote from them.
What you need
- Tray;
- cling film or foil;
- gooseberry;
- freezer bags or containers with lids;
- marker.
How to do
Line a freezer tray or tray with cling film or foil. Spread dry berries on the surface in a single layer.
Place the tray in the freezer for 2-3 hours until the gooseberries are completely frozen.
After freezing, pour the berries into a container. Tie the bags tightly and close the containers, sign them on top with a marker and indicate the packing date. Put the gooseberries back in the freezer for storage.
How to freeze gooseberries with sugar
If you want to diversify the taste of the workpiece, chop a couple of slices of orange or lemon with peel along with the berries. This mixture can be used as a substitute for regular jam.
What you need
- 1 kg of gooseberries;
- blender;
- 300 g of sugar;
- containers with lids;
- marker.
How to do
Put the prepared berries in a bowl and chop with a blender.
Add sugar and mix thoroughly. Adjust the amount depending on the sweetness of the gooseberries and your preference.
Pour the berry and sugar mixture into the containers without filling them to the top. Close the lids, sign and put in the freezer for storage.
How to freeze mashed gooseberries
It is convenient to add to hot drinks and use as a base for sauces.
What you need
- Gooseberry;
- blender;
- sieve;
- sugar - optional;
- containers with a lid or molds for ice;
- packages - optional;
- marker.
How to do
Pour the gooseberries into a bowl and grind with a blender. Partially wipe the mass through a fine sieve.
The remaining pulp can be used for cooking fruit drink.
If desired, add some sugar to the gooseberries and mix well. Divide the puree into containers, label and place in the freezer.
Or distribute the mass into ice molds, let it harden in the freezer for 3-4 hours. Then transfer the cubes to a bag or container, label and store.
