This is what we're watching: "Stringer" is a psychological thriller in which Gyllenhaal is simply brilliant

For those who can't resist doomscrolling, there will definitely be something to think about.
In the new series Articles every week I talk about what films and TV shows struck me.
In the first half of the tenth Jake Gyllenhaal was an actor who was not mistaken in the choice of projects. "Source Code", "Patrol", "Enemy", "Prisoners" - beautiful pictures that came out one after another. And then came "Stringer" - a brilliant thriller that reveals the wrong side of the news feed. And here Gyllenhaal was absolutely brilliant.
The protagonist of the film is an urban crazywho doesn't know where to put himself. By chance, he stumbles upon freelance journalists filming accidents and crimes, gets charged with the drive of the profession, buys a camera and gets to work. He is not motivated by money, but by the horror he can film.
"Stringer" is a mixture of psychological thriller, social commentary and black comedy, but without jokes at all. Despite the seriousness of the issue, director and screenwriter Dan Gilroy saturates the story with enthusiasm and even fun. As if going through the nine circles of hell can be an attraction, and Virgil is able to tell funny stories about sinners.
The film pleases not only with a great script and very accurate directing, but also with acting. Jake Gyllenhaal skillfully traces the path from insanity to sheer madness. In general, a big budget is not needed when there is Gyllenhaal and high-quality dialogues.
"Stringer" perfectly demonstrates the addiction to tragedy. If at first the hero is shocked by an ordinary car accident, then over time he wants to find something more. He gets hooked on adrenaline, only the contemplation of new suffering can satisfy him. As well as a news consumer who wants to see more tin today than yesterday, otherwise he simply will not click on the news.
At times doomscrolling Stringer reminds us that behind every high-profile news there is a real, real tragedy. Might be worth watching just for that reminder.
