How to store fresh mint in water
With fragrant greens, you can do the same as with a flower bouquet. How long mint will stay fresh with this method of storage depends on its quality. A wilted bunch from the store can only last a couple of days. And freshly cut stems can stand for several weeks and even take root.
What you need
- Vase or jar;
- water;
- scissors or a sharp knife.
How to do
Fill the vase or jar about halfway with water. stems mint cut at an angle with scissors or a sharp knife. Also remove damaged branches and lower leaves.
Lower the bundle into a container and place it in a cool shaded place. Try to change the water daily.
How to Store Fresh Mint in the Refrigerator
There are three easy ways. Any of these will keep the mint fresh for about one to three weeks, although a lot depends on the original quality of the greens.
1. in wet tissue
What you need
- Towel, cotton cloth or gauze;
- water.
How to do
First, thoroughly wash the mint under running water, getting rid of damaged leaves and stems. Shake off excess liquid from the bundle.
Wet a small kitchen towel, piece of cotton or gauze, and wring it out well. Spread the branches on the material in a thin layer. Roll up the towel. Do not make it too dense, the greens should be freely located in the layers of fabric.
Put the roll in a plastic bag and refrigerate.
2. in a container
What you need
- Container with lid;
- paper towels or napkins.
How to do
Sort the mint, discarding rotten and withered specimens. From the remaining stems, carefully pluck leaves.
Get a clean, dry container with a tight-fitting lid. Place mint leaves on the bottom in a layer of about 1-1.5 cm, and on top - a paper towel or napkin. Repeat layers until greens are gone.
Close the container with a lid and send it to the refrigerator. Periodically look into the container: if the wipes become too wet, replace them with new ones.
3. In the package
What you need
- Paper or regular towel;
- ziplock bag.
How to do
Carefully inspect the bundle, remove damaged twigs and leaves. If the greens are covered with moisture, pre-dry on a paper or regular towel.
Place the mint in a ziplock bag. Slightly press on the package to release excess air, close it and send it to the refrigerator.
Each time you take out the mint, let the air out of the bag before you close it.
