This is a Chinese Crested with a difficult fate.
In Cliffonia (USA), the World's Ugliest Dog competition is held annually. As the name implies, the ugliest dog of the year is chosen on it - but not for the sake of ridicule, but in order to show people that pets with a variety of features and appearance can become their best friend and deserve chance.
In 2023 the winner became Scooter is a 7-year-old male Chinese Crested who was born with a peculiarity: his hind legs and knuckles turned the wrong way. The breeder gave the puppy for euthanasia, but he was rescued by volunteers from the Saving Animals From Euthanasia (SAFE) group.
The owner of the Scooter is Linda Celeste Elmkis, also a member of SAFE. She treated him while he lived with another group volunteer. When he could no longer take care of the dog, Elmkis took him to her house.
Elmkis said that Scooter used to walk on his front legs from a puppy age, but gradually walking began to tire him more and more quickly. When he gets tired, he sits on his hind legs, like on a tripod.
Luckily, the vet helped him pick up a cart. Although the dog had to get used to using it, it allowed him to move more. With the cart, he was also able to do things he was physically unable to do before, such as bending over to sniff around.
The owner noted that in addition to the deformed body, Scooter is no different from any other dog - and simply loves Brunswick sausage.
