This is what we're watching: "I'm sick of myself" - a black comedy for those who have ever tried to attract attention

Do not be afraid: the director will not scold you.
In the new series Articles every week I talk about what films and TV shows struck me.
Today I want to restore justice. In 2022, the premiere of the picture of the Norwegian director Kristoffer Borgley "Sick of Yourself" took place. The film was awarded a nomination at Cannes, and then forgotten. And in vain.
“I’m sick of myself” looks like a diagnosis to the generation of social networks, when people share everything for the sake of attention. The whole movie is like a selfie with a dead relative.
The main character will be understood by anyone who is not alien to vanity - she just brings it to the maximum. Signe is so obsessed with attention that she is ready to do anything just to be looked at. For example, during a feast dedicated to the exhibition of her boyfriend Thomas, Signe lies that she is allergic to peanuts - just so that everyone notices her presence.
Then she starts taking pills for the side effects. The heroine loses her health, but thinks only about whether a random bus passenger will look at her - ideally, he should also express sympathy.
At the beginning of the picture, it seems that something is wrong with Signe. But when she does get attention, her boyfriend tries to get his dose of love and sympathy from those around him.
Narcissism and the manic desire for attention are not only a problem, but also a great basis for jokes. The film is filled with absurd scenes, each of which is magnificent in itself. For example, Signe fearfully imagines visiting a doctor who, based on an x-ray, will tell her that she has a bad sense of humor. And during sex, the heroine imagines her funeral, which is not allowed to leave her father who left the family and the once best girlfriend.
The film enumerates human vices but refrains from moralizing. Does not comb, but tickles the wounds. If you've ever lied to get noticed, Self Sick is a must-see.
