Timeless interior: how to make repairs that will not become obsolete in a year
Miscellaneous / / June 12, 2023
Refusing bright colors and unusual decor is not necessary.
1. Consider the rules of ergonomics
It is the science of creating optimal conditions. Thanks to her in the 1920s appeared concept of "working triangle" in the kitchen. According to him, there should be no more than 1–2 meters between the main zones, otherwise daily cooking risks turning into cardio training.
In addition, the precepts of ergonomics say that it is desirable to occupy only half the volume of the room with furniture. Between subjects costs leave at least 70 centimeters. So it will be easy to move around the apartment even in the dark.
The assortment of stores for the home takes into account the basic standards of ergonomics. Let's say desktops usually have a height of 75 cm, which is considered optimal for most people. However, personal comfort is more important than the rules for organizing space. If you are taller than average, test out standard furniture and layout options to make sure the dimensions and distances are comfortable for you.
2. Use a neutral base and bright accents
In order not to get tired of expressive shades in a couple of years, make the base of the interior calm, and add colors through the details. You can choose a base like this: warm beige tones - for an interior that does not have a lot of natural light, and cold white - in rooms located on the sunny side.

With the help of color, you can control the attention of guests. For example, if the apartment has a kitchen-living room, you should choose one accent zone. Most likely, this will be the living room, because the kitchen often accumulates a mess. Therefore, the zone for communication can be made more catchy, so that when entering the room, the visitor pays attention first of all to it. And the space where you cook is best equipped with cabinets in neutral shades with smooth facades or unobtrusive milling.
Small splashes of bright colors will add freshness and individuality. For example, a poster on the wall or a colorful blanket on couch. Small furniture can also be accent - for example, chairs or a coffee table. If you don't like the color, replacing accessories will be easier than repainting the walls or buying a new kitchen set.

The 60-30-10 rule applies in design. 60% is occupied by the main color - walls, floors, ceilings, carpets, curtains. 30% is reserved for an additional shade, such as furniture. And 10% remains on the accent color. It can be present in textiles and decor.
To choose the right palette, use color wheel. It allows you to create schemes of shades that will blend well with each other. For example, if milk is chosen as the main color, shades of brown and beige are suitable as additional ones, and blue and blue are suitable for decor. White and black are not included in the circle, because they complement all shades well.
3. Don't follow trends
Not all fashionable solutions today will remain at their peak tomorrow. For example, in the 1980s, wall cabinets cost several salaries, and to buy them, people signed up in a queue. But now such furniture looks uncomfortable and bulky.

The trendy interior is suitable for those who want to turn the apartment into an exhibition space that impresses guests and shows the income of the owner. But keep in mind that trends become obsolete. Then the apartment will need to be redesigned, and a new repair will entail spending. If there is no task to surprise, I would advise you to focus on your taste, and not chase trends.
Some fashion trends are easy to implement in detail - for example, color trends. In 2023 Pantone announced Viva Magenta as the shade of the year. Luxurious bright crimson can be added to a space with bedding or vases.

For a durable interior, it is better to choose natural materials. For example, solid wood furniture is easy to restore. After a while, it can be varnished or changed color. It is better to make the walls smooth for painting, over time they can also be updated.
4. Choose a style that suits your space
Some styles are more demanding on space than others. For example, a loft looks good in spacious rooms with high ceilings and large windows. And the classic, although it originated in palaces and estates, is good adapts to the needs of modern citizens.
The classical style is based on the principle of symmetry, which can be applied both in spacious apartments and in small rooms. To do this, select the main piece of furniture and distribute the others on the sides of it. In the bedroom, such an object will be a bed, in the kitchen - a dining table, in living room - sofa. Next to the bed, you can place elegant bedside tables and hang a sconce over each of them. On the opposite side, place the TV and chest of drawers.
In modern classics, restrained colors, natural materials and furniture of simple shapes are used, without complex curls and bends. An important role is played by decorations - lamps, vases, sculptures. You can find them in antique shops and flea markets.
5. Mix old and new items
The combination of furniture and decor items from different eras and styles will enhance the feeling of timeless space. This is because your home will not reflect the interior trends of one period. For example, a beautiful old carpet will make a great company for a modern sofa with clear lines.

In an old apartment, it is not necessary to change everything - many things with history fit into a modern interior. Work with large planes: a solid parquet floor can be sanded, and walls can be repainted. Valuable objects of good shape and texture, such as crystal chandeliers, are subject to restoration. Vintage items will add individuality, because only you will have them.
Remember that the older the thing, the more attention it will attract. Therefore, there should not be many vintage items in the interior. In order for the elements to blend well with each other, it is important to adhere to a common style. For example, in a minimalist Scandinavian style it is easy to fit a laconic Soviet bedside table - you just need to choose the right shade of the facade.
6. Consider lighting scenarios
The interior with a single chandelier in the center of the ceiling looks outdated already at the start. In addition, it is not very practical: the light is distributed unevenly around the room, leaving the corners dark. Therefore, it is better to provide several sources for different tasks. This will complicate the space and make it multi-level.

Chandeliers that can illuminate the farthest corners of the room, as a rule, are large and accented. For an apartment with low ceilings, this option may look cumbersome. It is better to make a linear backlight with brightness control, which will allow you to change the atmosphere.
If small children live in the apartment, you can add backlit skirting boards. This is convenient if you need to take the child to the toilet at night.
In the living room, combined with the kitchen, a pendant lamp above the dining table will come in handy. And for a quiet evening, you can provide the muffled light of wall sconces or LED candles. A cozy floor lamp would be appropriate next to the reading chair.

Bedside lamps will be useful in the bedroom, and curtain lights will also look cozy. The kitchen needs an LED line under the upper cabinets to make it convenient to cook in the evenings. Above the dining area, you can install a chandelier or several suspensions.
The bathroom has enough spotlights and illuminated mirrors. And I would also advise you to make a floating ceiling with LED strip around the perimeter of the entire room. With it, you can relax in warm water without annoying overhead light.
7. Upgrade the interior according to the situation
Leave space for light experiments to quickly change the situation if it gets boring. Try adding seasonal décor. For example, in spring you can use bedspreads and lampshades in pastel shades, and in summer - brighter and more saturated ones. Experiment with lighting: garlands can be hung not only for the New Year holidays, on a summer evening they will also add comfort to the room. Lights can be placed on walls, mirrors or under the ceiling.
Above the sofa, a group of paintings united by one theme will look good. And the shelves can be decorated with vases and flowers in a flower pot. The main thing is not to take objects of the same size - it is better if they differ in height. Let's say a large flower, a medium vase and a small candle. So they will form a harmonious group.
In order not to litter the rooms, allocate space in the apartment for personal photos and souvenirs. This zone can be updated periodically - for example, after travel or important family events. Thanks to small changes in the interior, there will always be a feeling of novelty.
