Apple introduced at the WWDC conference a new tool for developers Game Porting Tool. With it, you can quickly transfer games from Windows to macOS.
Now, before porting games from DirectX 12 to Metal 3, developers will have the opportunity to test them on the new system. The company demonstrated the work of this tool using The Medium as an example - it was really quickly transferred and optimized for the new engine without changes in the code.
In addition to porting and optimization, Game Porting Tool helps to add game controller support, spatial audio and HDR effect.
Some Reddit users have already installed and launched Cyberpunk 2077 on M1 MacBook Pro, Diablo IV on M1 Max MacBook Pro and Hogwarts Legacy on M2 Max. Initial results look promising despite some obvious performance limitations, they note.
However, when running games on a Mac this way, there may be potential errors related to the rejection of the new environment, the company warns. In such cases, developers will still have to create their own ports.
You can download the Game Porting Toolkit at site companies and page GitHub.
