They will not work in all countries.
Tinkoff Bank since May 23 began issue cards of the Chinese UnionPay payment system for all its customers. A virtual card is available absolutely free of charge, and a physical one can be purchased for 1,000 rubles.
The bank warned that the UnionPay card would not work in the European Union, the US, the UK, Georgia and Israel. However, customers will be able to pay with it or withdraw money from an ATM in Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, as well as in many countries in Asia, Africa and South America.
Cards of the Chinese payment system will be issued as additional to those available to customers, figured out at RBC.
Now UnionPay remains the only international payment system that operates in Russia. Officially, the company did not announce the termination of work with sub-sanctioned banks, but there are restrictions.
"Tinkoff" received the right to issue UnionPay cards at the end of last year. At first, they were issued in a limited mode exclusively to employees and a number of clients. Now the cards are available to everyone.
