Fraudsters began calling bank customers via video link
Miscellaneous / / May 22, 2023
Technology does not stand still.
Fraudsters began making video calls via instant messengers, posing as bank employees. About it informs Interfax with reference to the press service of VTB.
It all starts with a regular phone call or messenger. If the interlocutor does not believe or doubts, the scammer calls back via video link, pretending to be service from a bank office.
Having convinced the bank client that he is allegedly a real employee, the scammers turn to popular theft schemes: they offer to issue a loan application, change a trusted phone number, transfer money to a "safe account" or provide a code from an SMS under any pretext.
The press service of the bank notes that now instant messengers have become the main channel for the activity of scammers. They account for 64% of calls, and phone calls, on the contrary, are losing popularity. At the same time, VTB warns that real bank employees will not use such communication channels.
It is easy to protect yourself: do not tell representatives of banks or departments personal data, do not transmit any codes from SMS, but in case of the slightest suspicion, hang up and call the bank yourself by phone from the card or the official website.
