Miscellaneous / / May 18, 2023
And to see the beauty, and eat, and take pictures - entertainment for every taste.
After a four year break restored air communication with Georgia. Previously, only connecting flights could reach the country by air, now there will be direct flights. About its intention to fly routes connecting the two countries, has already declared the Georgian company Georgian Airways and the Russian Azimuth. Accordingly, now traveling to Georgia is much more convenient.
There are many attractions in the country that are worth visiting, but they can be found in any guidebook. Therefore, we have prepared a list of cool places that Lifehacker employees who have studied Georgia personally like.
1. Vardzia, Javakheti
Vardzia is a cave monastery complex, in fact, a city carved into the mountain in the 12th-13th centuries. In the sheer wall of Erusheti there are up to 600 rooms - from cells to churches. They occupy eight floors and extend inward for 50 meters. The monumentality of this complex is difficult to describe in words, it is something worth seeing with your own eyes.
Ekaterina Mironycheva
Lifehacker Sales Director
On the second trip to Georgia, they dreamed of getting there. Vardzia is quite far from Tbilisi or Batumi. And if you go there, you have to lay the whole day. But the place is incredible, amazingly beautiful and unusual.
2. Shekvitili Dendrological Park, Batumi
The park is located 45 kilometers from Batumi. Plants were brought here from all over the world. So, here you can find bamboo and sequoia. And in total there are more than 150 unique species of trees. They live on the pond flamingos and white storks.
Elya Sibishova
Lifehacker senior project manager
We lived in Batumi for half a year, and one of my favorite places was Shekvitili Park. This is an arboretum with amazing huge trees that are collected from all over the world. Here you feel like a hobbit, and in general the place is saturated with some kind of quiet fairy-tale atmosphere - sprawling eucalyptus trees, majestic sequoias and incredible blooming magnolias through which sunlight.
3. Eco House Merisi Hotel, Adjara
This is a hotel in the mountains with cottages of different designs, offering breathtaking views. One of the local attractions is a six-meter swing.
Masha Pchyolkina
Lifehacker Executive Director
A place at an altitude of about 1,000 meters for complete relaxation with unrealistically beautiful views. The houses have Wi-Fi, a kitchenette and a bed next to the glass walls and ceiling. On the street there is a jacuzzi with foam, several cool photo spots and affectionate cats who come running along with dinner ordered in the room.
The hotel has a funny service called "Instagram Breakfast*". A very photogenic set, but we limited ourselves to morning coffee.
4. Fish market, Batumi
The fish market is located on the outskirts of Batumi. Don't expect a huge market, it's small. Reviews of this place on the Internet are contradictory, but several of our colleagues immediately advised it as worth a visit. They even gave instructions on how to do it right.
Ekaterina Mironycheva
You need to come to the market, bargain with sellers, buy fish and seafood. With you, the carcasses are cleaned, given away, and with this prey you go to restaurants behind the market. There are five of them, and each one has a pier by the sea. You hand the fish to the employees of the establishment, the chefs themselves know how best to cook it. From the menu, you take side dishes, drinks, and enjoy.
5. Restaurant "Heart of Batumi", Batumi
Restaurant with a fairly voluminous menu, large portions and a pleasant atmosphere.
Masha Pchyolkina
You should go here for Georgian cuisine. You don't even need to read the menu - everything is delicious. Adjarian khachapuri and veal skewers are especially good. Chicken is also excellent. And so in a family way it is pleasant and warm in this place.
6. May 6 Park, Batumi
City Park May 6 (formerly Pioneer) was founded in 1881 by German and French gardeners. It has places for walking, rides, treadmills - everything you need for different types of recreation.
Ksenia Krasnova
Lifehacker Development Director
The park is small and very cozy: there is a lake with ducks and turtles, paths, green meadows, benches with USB charging, sculptures and magnificent mountains in the background.
7. "Chronicle of Georgia", Tbilisi
This memorial complex is also called "History of Georgia" and "Chronicles of Georgia". Its main part consists of 16 columns up to 35 meters high. By the scale, one can guess that the author is Zurab Tsereteli. Biblical scenes are depicted on the lower part of the buildings, and the kings and queens of Georgia are depicted on the upper part.
Olya Revenkova
Lifehacker designer
The memorial is located on Mount Keeni, so it offers a beautiful view of the Tbilisi Sea (which is actually a reservoir). The monument depicts scenes from the history of Georgia and literary works. The road here is not the most pleasant - through the private sector and wastelands, so it is better to get there by car or taxi. But the impression of scale is worth it.
8. Cafe Museum, Tbilisi
Cafe with European cuisine and interior in Euro-Asian style. There is a rather large terrace here.
Elya Sibishova
The Cafe Museum has perhaps the most Instagrammable* mirror in Tbilisi! In addition, there is delicious coffee and friendly baristas. You can sit down with the guys at the bar, chat about life and look at the huge rack behind the bar with figurines, paintings and other interesting things.
9. Batumi Kart Club, Batumi
It's open karting with a track length of 400 meters. Many turns of varying difficulty make the race interesting, and the nature around is responsible for the picturesque views.
Masha Pchyolkina
Driving on a street track against the backdrop of mountains is just a thrill. Not many people in the off-season, all the karting was at our disposal.
10. Makhuntseti Waterfall, Adjara
From Batumi to the waterfall is 33 kilometers, but you will find a very picturesque road past the mountains, where you can see the gardens of local residents and forests. The destination is the villages of Upper and Lower Makhuntseti, which are located nearby. In Lower Makhuntseti, you can see two sights at once - a beautiful waterfall and the bridge of Queen Tamara.
Elya Sibishova
I have never seen the waterfall live, but here I was lucky enough to visit one of the highest in Georgia! For thrill-seekers, I recommend a zipline ride from the top of the waterfall to the bridge of Queen Tamara.
11. Trattoria Alfredo, Tbilisi
As you might guess, this is an Italian restaurant. He has quite high marks in various Internet ratings, and our colleagues agree with the reviews.
Masha Pchyolkina
The tastiest eggplant parmegiano I've ever had. The place is very popular, so it is better to book a table in advance, especially if you are going for lunch or dinner. Here you will find charming waiters, a bright and spacious hall and, the gem of this place, a huge dessert with chocolate, which must be taken at least for two, and preferably for four.
12. Batumi Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden has officially existed since 1912, although some of the work that preceded its appearance began to be carried out as early as the 19th century.
Masha Pchyolkina
You need to come to the Batumi Botanical Garden in order to breathe. In this place, the air is clean, filled with the aromas of flowers and trees. The garden is located in the coastal strip on a hill, so the view of the sea is magnificent. There are picnic pavilions, photo spots and, probably, several dozen routes with stairs, fountains, greenhouses, fruit plantations and small exhibitions. Get ready to walk a lot! Although if you still suddenly get tired, then you can drive through the garden in an electric car. Entrance costs 20 lari.
13. Bar Sami ludi, Batumi
A small two-story bar for connoisseurs of beer.
Ksenia Krasnova
The name is translated from Georgian as "three beers". There are not only worthy varieties of foamy drink, but also an ideal selection of burgers and traditional snacks for beer.
14. Photospot near the airport, Batumi
Fans of airplanes and beautiful photos can satisfy both of their passions at once.
Masha Pchyolkina
The photo spot is located across the road from the runway of the Batumi airport. To catch takeoff and landing, you need to look at the schedule. The plane flies directly overhead, as much goosebumps run. If you want beautiful pictures, you can peep poses and ideas in social networks by geolocation. And you can just watch - the spectacle is impressive!
15. Khinkali house, Tbilisi
The restaurant offers many dishes of Georgian cuisine, but it is not limited to them. So, on the menu you can find dumplings, pancakes and Caesar salad.
Olya Revenkova
We were served in Russian, the food is very tasty, and the prices are lower than in most establishments.
