How to feed cabbage seedlings
Miscellaneous / / May 14, 2023
Mineral and organic fertilizers will help plants grow stronger.
Things to remember when feeding cabbage seedlings
- The cruciferous family includes many types of cabbage. White cabbage, color, broccoli, Beijing and other species in the seedling stage develop almost the same way. Therefore, the same fertilizers are suitable for them. Their application rates and the number of top dressings also coincide.
- Water the seedlings about a day before the procedure. It is necessary to make nutrient mixtures only in moist soil, so as not to burn the roots of plants.
- Feed cabbage in the evening and if you use phytolampsturn them off immediately afterwards. Drops of fertilizer under the influence of artificial lighting or sunlight can cause burns on the leaves of seedlings.
- You can use only organic, only mineral, or alternate between different types of fertilizers for routine feeding. Ready-made complex mixtures for seedlings of cabbage and other vegetable crops are also suitable. These products are sold as liquid, powder, or granules. Carefully read the instructions before use and follow the consumption rates recommended by the manufacturer.
When to feed cabbage seedlings
At the initial stage of their development, young plants are especially in dire need of thorough nutrition. Nitrogen will help cabbage increase the green mass and form a strong stem, phosphorus is responsible for the development of the root system, and potassium is needed for tying a head of cabbage.
In total, cabbage seedlings will need three top dressings. The first is carried out when the sprouts release two true leaves, after 10–12 days - the second (usually another pair of leaves appears at this time), and the third - about a week before the expected landings plants in the garden.

Additional nutrition will help the cabbage to get stronger and grow faster.
Mineral fertilizers
Prepare one of the nutrient solutions and carefully water the sprouts under the root, being careful not to hit the leaves. To do this, it is convenient to use a syringe or syringe. Make sure the soil in the seedling cups is moist. For one plant, you will need about 1 teaspoon of the mixture.
- In 1 liter of water, dilute 1 g of ammonium nitrate, 1 g of potassium chloride and 2 g of superphosphate.
- Dissolve 1 g of nitroammophoska in 1 liter of water.
organic fertilizers
At the start of development, you can treat the cabbage with a solution of liquid biohumus. For this 5 ml fertilizer dilute in 1 liter of water. Leave the solution in a warm place and let it brew for 4 hours. Then water the cabbage under the root at the rate of 10-15 ml of the mixture per plant.

Grown plants will need a slightly higher concentration of nutrients than in the first top dressing.
Mineral fertilizers
Prepare one of the solutions and pour the cabbage under the root. One plant will need about 50 ml of nutrient mixture.
- Dilute 3 g of ammonium nitrate in 1 liter of water.
- Dissolve 2 g of potassium chloride, 2 g of ammonium nitrate and 4 g of superphosphate in 1 liter of water.
- Dissolve 3 g of nitroammophoska in 1 liter of water.
organic fertilizers
At this stage, you can use the same biohumus-based solution that was done for the first top dressing (5 ml of product per 1 liter of water), or prepare one of the mixtures below. Feed each bush with 50 ml of liquid.
- Dissolve 10 ml of potassium humate in 1 liter of water.
- Dilute 1 tablespoon in 3 liters of water ammonia.

At this stage, the plants will need a lot of phosphorus and potassium to form a dense head.
Mineral fertilizers
Shortly before planting in the ground, either root or foliar top dressing of cabbage seedlings can be carried out.
In the first option, about 100–200 ml of the nutrient mixture should be poured under the root of one plant. The same fertilizers that were used in the first two top dressings will do, only it is worth increasing the concentration. Or make a solution based on potassium monophosphate.
- In 1 liter of water, dilute 3 g of ammonium nitrate, 8 g of potassium chloride and 7 g of superphosphate.
- Dissolve 1 tablespoon of nitroammophoska in 10 liters of water.
- Dilute 30 g of potassium monophosphate in 10 liters of water.
For foliar feeding seedlings cabbage will need a solution of boric acid. Dilute 1 teaspoon of the substance in 250 ml of boiling water. Dilute the resulting concentrate with 10 liters of water. With this tool, carefully spray the leaves from the inside and outside. It is also better to do this in the evening.
organic fertilizers
For top dressing, all the same solutions of biohumus (5 ml of product per 1 liter of water) and potassium humate (10 ml of product per 1 liter of water) are suitable. Under the root of one plant you need to pour about 200 ml.
Yeast will also help stimulate the growth of cabbage. To do this, thoroughly dissolve 3 g of dry yeast in 3 liters of warm (not hot) water. Let the mixture brew in a warm place for 3 hours. Dilute the prepared solution with 10 liters of water and pour the cabbage under the root. 100-200 ml of fertilizer is enough for one bush.
