Anyone can buy a seat on board.
American startup Vast announced plans to launch the world's first commercial space station, Haven-1, in mid-2025. It will be delivered to low Earth orbit as part of the Vast-1 mission using SpaceX's Falcon 9 launch vehicle.
This is a very ambitious undertaking, and it is probably unlikely to be realized on time, notes The Washington Post. However, even in the plans, it is ahead of the estimated launch schedules of some other commercial stations, which theoretically increases Vast's chance of becoming a pioneer. For example, Axiom is working on the same (plans to launch at the end of 2025), and Also Nanoracks, Lockheed Martin and Voyager Space (in 2027).
Haven-1 will be approximately 10 meters long and 3.81 meters in diameter. Over time, it is planned to send additional modules to it. It will be a constantly growing station.
The ship is designed for a crew of four. At the same time, a place on board will be able to buy anyone who wants. They will be able to live in space comfortably: they will be provided with round-the-clock communication and Wi-Fi, as well as electricity and food.
If Vast-1 is successful, and there is a high demand for its flights, then the company will organize another mission. However, this will not happen before 2026.
Startup Vast appeared in 2021. It was founded by programmer and entrepreneur Jed McCaleb, who is worth an estimated $2.4 billion. By data Forbes, a businessman made a fortune on cryptocurrency.
