Overcoming interspecies differences.
The steady expression "get along like a cat with a dog" denotes a strong dislike. It is believed that these two animals literally hate each other. This is reflected in popular culture: the cat Tom hunts the mouse Jerry, but he himself regularly becomes a victim of the bulldog Spike.
Poorly trained or stray dogs do attack cats. Why? Well, most dogs are bigger than cats, and they're also carnivores. Dogs hunt on animals less than themselves, because that's how their brain works.
The instincts of dogs tell them to chase the prey that is escaping from them. Strictly speaking, they are chasing not only cats, but in general for any little animals less than themselves. Simply feline is a fairly common mammal in the urban environment.
If people kept squirrels or meerkats instead of cats, then they would fall prey to Spike instead of Tom.
Difficulties in communication between the two species are added and differences in their body language. For example, when a dog is happy, it waves its tail, while in cats it is a gesture of aggression. When
dog embarrassed and frightened, she presses her ears to her head and leans towards the ground - from the point of view of the cat, this is preparation for an attack. That is, even if these animals are initially peaceful, a misunderstanding between them can develop into a confrontation.Cats usually run away even from peaceful dogs, thereby causing those to want to pursue them. And some attack suspicious dogs - and those after that start afraid of cats.
However, with proper training, cats and dogs can coexist peacefully. For example, scientists at Tel Aviv University claimthat the best way to get two species to bond is to grow them together from an early age.
If the kitten grows up with the puppy, then over time, pets will stop noticing differences in body language and will not perceive incomprehensible signals as signs of aggression.
