Scientists have determined the ideal proportions of mixing whiskey with water

It is believed that adding a small amount of water to whiskey "reveals" the taste of the drink. group of american scientists studied this question and determined the ideal proportions.
To do this, the researchers analyzed 25 different varieties of this alcoholic beverage and the response of their volatile compounds to the addition of water. They also asked professional tasters to rate the samples.
During the experiment, it turned out that adding water can change the smell of whiskey. If you overdo it and dilute it by more than 20%, then the characteristic aroma of the drink literally disappears.
At a 60:40 ratio of whiskey to water, study participants could no longer distinguish between different whiskeys. In this proportion, they all begin to smell the same.

Chemical analysis confirmed the respondents' impressions. Water in large quantities really removes compounds from the drink that are associated with taste and aroma. If you add too much, then only the taste of alcohol remains.
To sum up, the researchers recommend drinking whiskey with a maximum of one large ice cube. So it will retain its unique qualities.
