Miscellaneous / / May 02, 2023
It will be visible in most of Russia.
The shadow of the Earth will partially cover the Moon on Friday, May 5. As a result, a so-called penumbral eclipse will occur - the satellite will darken, but will not disappear completely.
This astronomical phenomenon will begin at 18:14 and will last until 22:31 Moscow time. It will reach its peak at 20:23.
at the Moscow Planetarium notethat it will be a very weak lunar eclipse, since the Earth's shadow will pass only along the edge of the Moon. Therefore, it is unlikely that it will be possible to observe him without professional equipment. But if the weather permits, it will be possible to see with the naked eye. In Russia - everywhere except Taimyr and Chukotka.
Like all lunar eclipses, penumbral ones occur as a result of the passage of the Earth between the Moon and the Sun, when all three bodies line up. With this arrangement, our planet blocks the satellite's sunlight and covers it with its shadow.
