Google Play now has ads in search results
Miscellaneous / / April 26, 2023
Users from Russia are unlikely to be affected.
Back in November, many Android users noticed promotional offers in Google Play search. But then Google assured that this is not advertising, but only proactive recommendations of applications that may be of interest to the user. The latest Google Play update put everything in its place: these were indeed recommendations, but now an ad block has also joined them.

The Twitter discussion that launched developer Mishaal Rahman revealed the prevalence of a nasty new feature. Users from the USA, Canada, Pakistan and India unsubscribed in the comments - all of them faced ads on Google Play.
It is also noted that unlike the tests in November, the final interface offers more information about the advertised applications - including rating and number of downloads. This also applies to proactive recommendations.
Considering that earlier Google removed advertising from your search engine and YouTube for users from Russia, it will most likely not be on Google Play either. It is not yet clear whether ads are displayed when using a VPN or accounts of regions where such "recommendations" have already appeared.
