The Ministry of Digital Development is developing a new system for regulating the supply of laptops and PCs to the country. Within its framework, retailers will be required to pre-install the Russian OS on each device. About this with reference to their own sources writes "Kommersant".
It is noted that the Russian OS should become additional. Which system will be installed is not specified. However, in November, the Ministry of Digital Transformation conducted a business survey to select "target" domestic systems. According to the results of the survey, three OS allocated - Astra Linux, OS "Viola" and "Red OS" - they are all based on Linux.
Some experts believe that the initiative on the mandatory pre-installation of the Russian OS on laptops and PCs help avoid illegal shipments of Microsoft Windows OS, which may not receive updates security.
The representative of RATEK (which unites M.Video-Eldorado, DNS, Citilink, etc.) Anton Guskov added that such an initiative would have a negative impact on the market. In particular, the first consequence will be an increase in the cost of production. He also noted that installing two operating systems at the same time is not feasible on all devices, which also creates additional problems.
The document on the new regulatory system may be submitted to the government as early as this quarter.
