You've been noticed: Windows 11 will learn to detect when the user is at the computer
Miscellaneous / / April 17, 2023
No more touching your keyboard or mouse to remind you of your presence.
In the latest test build of Windows 11 (update code KB5025299), we discovered a new feature: system access to presence sensors. This will allow applications to get information about whether the user is nearby and adapt to this data.
One of the main benefits of this approach is improved data security and privacy. The computer or laptop can be automatically locked when the user leaves, so that someone else cannot come up and look at something. This will also affect power consumption: the session will be blocked immediately, and not after the time specified in the settings.
It is noted that the function is implemented entirely locally: Microsoft does not collect or store any images or metadata associated with the use of presence sensors.
So far, this feature is only available as part of build KB5025299 for members of the Windows Insider Beta Program. It is not yet clear when it will be added to the stable version of the system.
