It looks like the reason is in the optics, not the software.
Buyers of flagship smartphones typically expect flagship devices to be thoroughly reviewed and tested to keep negatives to a minimum. In fact, misses happen even with devices more expensive than a thousand dollars: then a new paint is scratched, then from the backup data cannot be recovered. So in the case of the new Galaxy S23, a common problem was discovered that Samsung did not catch before the release.
The story received wide publicity thanks to post from Reddit user Switch01. He said that blurry spots regularly appear in photos from his new Galaxy S23: on the left side in landscape mode or on top if you hold the smartphone vertically. Because of this, photographs containing text are often impossible to use - especially when it comes to documents. But it is also noticeable in ordinary pictures. For example, here:
Here is another example - on a regular photo without enlargement.
The author began to google the details and found a lot of similar cases in different forums. The German site Android-Hilife even conducted a survey among users in March, which
showed: The problem affected 64 owners out of 71 respondents. Also author refers to an unnamed Italian site that conducted a similar survey. In it, the problem was confirmed by 17 out of 25 Galaxy S23 owners surveyed. Moreover, in comparison Galaxy S23+ cameras with other flagships from GSMArena can also notice this unpleasant feature, although it is not emphasized in the text.
According to available information, only the base Galaxy S23 and S23+ are affected, there are no reports of a similar problem with the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Samsung has not yet acknowledged the problem, but in one of the cases cited by Switch01, a user was denied a repair due to the lack of a suitable camera module to replace at the service center. This suggests that the problem is hardware and cannot be solved by updating the firmware.
