Miscellaneous / / April 05, 2023
Projects, articles and achievements that we are proud of.
Oksana Zapevalova
Chief editor of Lifehacker.
For the media, surviving in 2022 is already a success. It was not easy to cope with external circumstances, but we are still here and writing for you, which means that everything worked out. A lot has been done over the year: we increased the audience, launched new editorial projects and podcasts, and conducted research. But our main goal was to remain useful to you, our readers, to support and provide answers to questions that are of concern right now (and there were a lot of them!). How successful it is is up to you. In the meantime, we will tell you what materials, projects and events this year will be remembered for us.
Celebrated the 15th birthday of Lifehacker
On February 11, 2022, Lifehacker turned 15 years old. It started in 2007 as a small technology blog. And now it is a media that is read by more than 25 million users every month. Every day we work so that you can find the answer to your question, learn something new, or just pass the time with an interesting text.
Updated the design of author and user profiles
We did itto make it easier for readers. It is now easy for users to view notifications on their profile, as well as all the comments they have ever left. If you like the work of a particular author, you can click on his name in the article and go to the list of all his texts.
Sergei Chigodaikin
Senior Product Manager.
This year we experimented and came up with a lot of new things that should appear on Lifehacker in the near future. Already updated user profiles. We have integrated smart content recommendation systems - you can see them at the bottom of each article. We make sections of our site even more accessible to readers. And in 2023 you will find more interesting things!
Developed our podcasts
This year we continued to release "Lifehacker Podcast" for those who like to listen to articles rather than read, and "life hack”, where we talk about the useful as briefly as possible. And there was also something new.

Head of Podcast Department.
We experimented a lot to understand what is interesting to our audience and how to increase it. Therefore, in the new year, we plan to focus on what our listeners love the most. These are narrative podcasts, phrasebooks, maybe even a mixture of one with the other. We try to listen not only to what format the audience likes, but also to what topics they are currently interested in.
The main thing we want to keep is the quality of our content, that is, great sound, accessible and interesting presentation of the material. I think that we will have something to surprise and please the audience in 2023.

Helped advertisers solve business problems
2022 has been a challenging year for everyone, including Lifehacker's commercial team. Many partners have left the Russian market, advertising laws have become tougher, and the information field has noticeably changed. But, despite all the difficulties, we did not give up. This year, we've been experimenting a lot with themes and formats to find options that will bring maximum value to readers and help advertisers achieve their goals. And now, looking back, we can safely say that we succeeded.
A look into the future
This game takes you to the distant future. The user finds himself on the streets of a metropolis, on board a spaceship or in a mysterious cyber forest. In each location you need to find hidden objects with the help of technological lenses. Together with Bausch + Lomb, we managed to create a project that completely immerses you in a fantasy world and allows you to forget about reality for a few minutes. Try it - you'll love it!

By chance: how scientific discoveries happened that no one planned
Scientific discoveries are changing the familiar world. Now it is difficult to imagine how people lived without antibiotics, pasteurization or electricity, although the path to their appearance was long and difficult. But some important discoveries happened by accident, when scientists were doing very different things. For example, microwave ovens appeared as a by-product of military radar tests, and impenetrable glass in general is the result of an awkward movement of the researcher. We have collected even more interesting facts about the scientific world in the project for Rosatom - read it for yourself and show it to the children.

Head of Special Projects Department.
Every time when it's time to sum up the year, I briefly fall into confusion. It is very difficult to choose just a few projects, because absolutely every material has invested a lot of effort, time and love - to the client and to the reader. But if we talk about my personal top, then I highly recommend game, in which you need to stroke the cat - firstly, you can stick in it for a long time, and secondly, there is a cat! I also really like our guide how to send SMS correctly. The topic may not seem the most exciting, but inside is a storehouse of information that will be useful to all entrepreneurs - from the heads of large firms to manicure masters. And if you do not know what to cook for the New Year, I recommend this material - it contains dozens of recipes for every taste.
Researched the advertising market
In 2022, Lifehacker conducted a study of the native advertising market for the fifth time. It helps to understand what is happening in this area, which industries and categories of advertisers are using this format more actively.

Lifehacker Development Director.
Lifehacker has been conducting a study of native advertising since 2018. Today, thanks to the collected data, we can trace how the market has changed over the past five years, as well as in in which segments it grew or fell and how it reacted to the crises that we had to endure over the past time.
From year to year we try to make research more useful. For example, in 2021 they included media accounts on social networks, in 2022 they expanded the number of platforms analyzed. We are constantly working on the studied parameters and sampling - everything so that the industry receives objective information and develops. Based on the data obtained, we collect beautiful and understandable infographics, which we publish in a large analytical article. Read it if you want to know how the media is really doing in this challenging year.
Also at the end of 2021, we thought it would be great to explore podcast advertising as well. And in 2022, they conducted a large two-part study in this area too.

As producers, we were interested to learn about the audience listening to podcasts and their attitudes towards advertising. At the same time, we studied what commercial integrations look like, where they are located, how long they last, and in the final surveyed brands to understand what they expect from this ad format and why they choose it his. The results are interesting! If you produce podcasts or plan to place ads in them, you will find a lot of useful insights in these materials.
We don't plan to stop
Alexey Ponomar
Lifehacker Publisher.
We will remember this year forever. I want to thank the readers who continue to believe in us, clients and partners for new challenges and opportunities and, of course, the team that coped with all adversity 12 points out of 10. Lifehacker remains a big and important publication in its industry, but our main mission is to make the life of our audience better and more interesting. What are we going to do next.
