Google is preparing an app to decipher doctors' handwriting

A large number of doctors write prescriptions for drugs in a hurry, because of which their patients often cannot understand what they have scrawled there. This problem has been around for decades, and many tech companies have tried unsuccessfully to solve it. Now in business enters Google.
The search giant announced at its annual conference in India that it is working with pharmacists to explore ways to decipher doctors' handwriting. This technology is currently being tested.
To make out the doctor's handwriting, the user will simply need to take a picture of the prescription or upload a picture from the smartphone's memory. After processing the image, the application will highlight the detected drugs and other important data.
It will be an assistive technology for digitizing handwritten medical documents. However, any decision to dispense drugs or can only be made by a pharmacist, Google added.
According to a report by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), 1.5 million injuries each year are due to medical professionals misreading handwritten prescriptions and recommendations. Therefore, the problem really needs a solution for a long time.
