Back in April E Ink announced next-generation Gallery 3 color displays with improved refresh rate, high resolution and stylus support. Now the company has announced the start of production of commercial readers and tablets with such displays. The first of them was Bigme Galy.
It is an 8-inch tablet with a resolution of 1920×1440 pixels, an unnamed 2.3GHz octa-core processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 11 and comes with a Smart Pen A5 stylus that recognizes 4096 degrees of pressure and attaches to the body of the device with a magnet.
The display has 36 backlight levels and 4 refresh modes: standard, HD for use as a digital frame (maximum quality, low refresh rate), fast for reading comics and using the browser, and black and white with a high refresh rate for working with documents.
The tablet received two cameras: a 5-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel main camera. There is a function of automatic scanning of documents: just take the desired sheet on the main camera and turn on text recognition.
Other features include a fingerprint scanner in the side button, a TF card slot for storage expansion, stereo speakers, and Bluetooth for connecting wireless headphones, keyboards, and mice.
Bigme Galy is now available to order on Kickstarter at a price of $539 (≈35,000 rubles), pre-orders will start shipping in February. At the same time, the device will appear on open sale, but the cost will rise to $699 (≈45,300 rubles)
