Epic Games has released the RealityScan iOS app. It turns real objects into 3D models
Miscellaneous / / April 05, 2023
No LiDAR sensor required: any smartphone or tablet running iOS 16 will do.
Epic Games has released the RealityScan app, which turns photos of any item into detailed 3D models, out of beta. The user only needs to take a picture of the object, the application takes care of the rest of the work. Processing takes place in the cloud, which reduces hardware requirements.
In order for the model to turn out to be sufficiently detailed and accurate, it is recommended to take at least 20 shots from different angles, in good lighting and against a uniform background.
When the scan is completed, the 3D model can be exported to the smartphone's memory or immediately upload to Sketchfab, a popular platform for showcasing content for augmented and virtual reality.
The app is already available for all iPhones and iPads running iOS / iPadOS 16 and later. An Android version is also in development, but the release date has not yet been specified.
