Created a VR headset that kills the user after dying in the game

The developer was inspired by the anime Sword Art Online, where you can leave the virtual world only after a complete victory.
Palmer Lucky, creator Oculus Rift, invented a virtual reality headset that literally blows up the user's brain if he dies in a video game. About it writes Vice.
This gadget looks like Zuckerberg's Quest Pro helmet, but is complemented by three explosive modules above the screen. Shots aimed straight at forebrain, and their activation will leave no chance for the wearer of the headset.
The idea of tying your real life to a virtual avatar has always fascinated me - you instantly raise the stakes to the maximum level and force people to fundamentally rethink how they interact with the virtual world and players inside it. Cool graphics can make a game more realistic, but only the threat of serious consequences can make it real for you and every other person in the game.

According to Lucky, when creating the device, he was inspired by the light novel and anime Sword Art Online, where players put on a NeveGear virtual reality headset and enter a game that becomes real for them trap. Players must fight their way through 100 levels of the dungeon to escape. If they die in the game, they will die in real life as well.
In Sword Art Online, NerveGear kills players with a microwave emitter. But Lucky couldn't figure out how to make something like this work without attaching a headset to gigantic hardware. That is why the choice fell on explosives. The charges are connected to a photo sensor, which detects the appearance of the Game Over inscription on the screen and transmits a signal for detonation.
Such a device, of course, will not go on sale. This is just a demo development with no implementation plans. Nevertheless, Lucky plans to continue working on the helmet, implementing a system of protection against removal from the head.
