Google recommends updating Chrome urgently: a serious vulnerability has been found in the browser
Miscellaneous / / April 04, 2023
It confuses the system and gives attackers access to the data on the device.
On the PC version of the Chrome browser discovered zero-day vulnerability CVE-2022-3723. It allows you to execute a Type Confusion exploit in the V8 Javascript engine.
The program using the exploit requests access to the same object, resource, or variable twice, but uses the wrong base type the second time. This confuses the system and gives the program access to areas of memory that should not be accessible to it. As a result, attackers can access sensitive data stored on the device, cause application crashes, and even execute code remotely.
The good news is that Google has already confirmed this issue and closed vulnerability in browser versions 107.0.5304.87/88. If you are using an older version, it is recommended that you install the update and restart the application as soon as possible.
CVE-2022-3723 was the seventh zero-day vulnerability found in Chrome in 2022. For comparison: for 2021 uncovered and eliminated a record 58 vulnerabilities.
Google suggests that this is due to more thorough checks from Google, Apple and Microsoft, which have allowed security breaches to be found more often than before. After a series of discoveries, the frequency of their detections has decreased, so 2022 has become a calmer year in terms of discovered vulnerabilities.
