Kozlovsky and Petrov fell in love. How did the series "Two" turn out

On October 3, the premiere of the first two episodes of the series "Navvoe" took place. The showrunner of the project was Valery Todorovsky ("The Thaw"). He also worked on the script together with Vsevolod Benigsen ("Judas"). Starring Danila Kozlovsky and Alexander Petrov.

"In Two" tells the story of two friends whose lives are broken into by love. Muscovites Kostya and Sasha go to St. Petersburg for work. Kostya has been happily married for 7 years, and Sasha prefers to avoid serious relationships. The trip turns everything upside down. Kostya is fond of the bright and hysterical Ira, who accompanies men in St. Petersburg. And on the way to Moscow, Sasha strikes up a conversation with Nastya, a shy cellist.

Returning home, friends realize that now their life will not be the same. Kostya is trying to figure out what to do with marriage and a new love. Sasha seeks to achieve the sympathy of a girl whom she does not understand at all.

Love stories look fresh

A lot of series and films are shot about love, it rarely happens to do something fresh and not banal. "Two" copes with this task, despite the fact that the series has two stories at once. They are very different from each other, each interesting in its own way.

Todorovsky gives both main characters roughly the same amount of screen time. In theory, this is dangerous: if one of the stories turned out to be unsuccessful, the series would become intolerable. Fortunately, they are of the same level - undoubtedly high.

High-quality dialogues reveal characters

Nadvoe has excellent dialogues. Each line moves the story forward and adds depth to the characters. There are no extra conversations. At the same time, speech is not only natural, but also unique - all the characters speak in their own way, they have their own peculiarities. The difference is maintained in the use of the words "fire" or "went" in the meaning of "like", and in small things like "what" / "what". Thanks to this, the heroes become alive.

The unique features of each character are also spelled out. For example, Sasha performed by Petrov in every situation tries to joke and it almost always fails.

Melancholy covers from the first series

Nadvoe has a strange atmosphere. This is a quiet series, rare emotional outbursts only shade the calmness. Reminds me of the movie Only Lovers Left Alive. Jim Jarmusch with his meditative pace. Almost does not break the silence and musical accompaniment - it is rare and barely audible.

The visual design of the series fits perfectly into the atmosphere. The color correction adds a bit of warm blue-gray color, and bright colors are almost absent. "Two" is an exemplary autumn series.

The operator creates a unique world

Sergey Kozlov was chosen as the operator, whose track record looks doubtful (“Paragraph 78”, “Yolki-5”, “House Arrest” as the peak of his career). But here Kozlov did an excellent job, as if showing that he had simply not been allowed to shoot so well before.

The series is replete with a variety of camera techniques. Close-ups on emotional dialogues, general shots when shooting routine episodes, switching between manual and static camera, depending on the pace of the story... "Double" is perfectly designed from a visual point of view vision.

Each scene is different from the previous one. There are no "passing" episodes - minor moments are still recorded in a special way. Even completely banal angles like car trips do not look boring, a way to add colors is found everywhere.

The cinematography brings out the strengths of the story and brings the series to life. It seems that if the script had been worse, the series would still have looked great.

Petrov and Kozlovsky do not spoil anything

Alexander Petrov and Danila Kozlovsky have a very strange reputation: it is unlikely that there are actors like them in Russian cinema - who are so much loved and hated at the same time. The great merit of the script is that it does not require anything supernatural from Petrov and Kozlovsky: the main work is done for them, the lines characterize the characters more than an emotional game. Actors just have to not spoil anything. And they succeed. They do not pull the blanket over themselves, but become only a small detail in this project.

"Two" - series about love, made with great love. The melancholic and neat script is overgrown with new details thanks to high-quality work with angles and authentic visual design. And if Kozlovsky and Petrov scare you, it’s worth overcoming your fear and watching at least the first episode - Nadvoe deserves it.
