Miscellaneous / / April 03, 2023
It's a matter of a few seconds.
Most users using the Windows operating system usually do not think about its parameters and characteristics. But if you need to install additional software, there is a question of compatibility.
To install suitable applications for work or play, it is advisable to know the version of Windows installed. You can do this by looking at the interface. Each generation has its own style and some design features of icons.
But not all users are able to determine the OS series immediately visually. You can use more precise methods.
Use special command
- Press Windows + R keyboard shortcut. This action will call the system utility.
- In the window that appears, in the "Open" field, enter the winver command and click OK.
- As a result, a tab will appear with information about the version of Windows installed on your computer. Study it.
Go to system information
More detailed data is available here than in the previous method. You can launch the desired window in different ways:
- After the system boots up, press the Windows + Pause Break keyboard shortcut. In this case, the required information window will immediately open.
- Right-click on "Start" and select "System" (System), then in the left menu from the list, select the lowest item "About" or "About".
- Go along the path "Start" → "Settings" → "System" → "About" ("About").
- Right-click on the My Computer icon or item, then select Properties.
In the "About the system" section there are all the main parameters: version, assembly, system bit depth and its release. An Edition is a set of available features. For example, "Home" (Home), "Professional" (Pro) or "Corporate" (Enterprise). The home edition lacks some additional features, but for most users, this version is sufficient.
